SARATOGA SPRINGS — A Spa City legacy with a long tradition celebrates a major milestone this year — and it predates horse racing.
“This year the track celebrates 150 years, but the Saratoga Chip celebrates 160 years,” said Danny Jameson, vice president of Saratoga Specialties, which makes Saratoga Chips.
The Fourth of July also marks the fourth anniversary of Jameson and his wife, Shelly, founding the business that brought back the Saratoga Chip. Their company aims to position the specialty chips for national distribution.
That marks a dramatic change from earlier this year, when the Jamesons were shopping around for a buyer of the business.
“We’d run out of personal resources to expand it to the next level, so we started trying to find someone to succeed us,” Danny Jameson said.
Instead, they found investors who wanted to support them.
Jim Schneider and Joseph Boff stepped in and provided the capital for the business to keep cooking away.
Boff is a Florida estate investor who has restored some downtown businesses, as well as a thoroughbred owner and breeder.
Schneider is a former president of Beech Nut Nutrition Corp. who lived in Saratoga Springs.
They then stepped in and asked the Jamesons to stay.
